What Is the Sourdough Discard Kit
This is the eleventh box in a 12-month sourdough series where you’ll explore more of the science behind discarding and how it can be used in a number of recipes. In this kit, your family will roll and cut your own crackers, plus pour and cook your own pancakes or waffles. This is a great way to teach kids about not letting things go to waste, while enjoying hands-on fun in the kitchen creating, learning, and building confidence.
What your family will learn:
-
The importance of discarding: Dig more into the importance of discarding and how it keeps your sourdough starter balanced, strong, and ready to bake.
-
The benefits of discard in non-yeast recipes: From improved digestibility to packing a punch of flavor, find out firsthand everything discard can add to yeast-free baked goods.
-
The science of yeast vs. discard: Learn why some breads can bake without yeast and how these chemically and physically compare to yeast-based treats.
Bonus Beyond the Bread Activities
